Some good news about the last group, al-Qaeda.
They have been suffering serious setbacks.
Their stronghold in Mosul in Northern Iraq has been decimated.
They have suffered big losses in Somalia. The al-Qaeda leader there was killed in a US bombing raid on May Day.
Arab fighters and al-Qaeda itself has practically disappeared from Afghanistan as a force with teeth, even though Osmama Bin Laden has used the country as his home base for 12 years.
Contrary to false or distorted media reports over the years, OBL has no personal fortune from his construction company family which he can draw on. His share of that money went south years ago, and there wasn’t that much to begin with.
Media stories of OBL possessing a $300 million cash box were completely wrong. According to informed US government sources, OBL has probably had access to less than $30 million in his lifetime and much of that went down the rat hole in losses when he lived in Khartoum years ago. He was forced out of that country and then lost his properties, or sold them at fire-sale prices, before he moved to Afghanistan.
He now exists in undoubtedly spare circumstances wherever he is hiding in Pakistan’s mountains and works with funds donated by West-hating radical Islamic sympathizers. But even those monies are believed to be relatively meager.
FBI Director Bob Mueller was quoted in The Week Magazine the other day. He said, al-Qaeda will be destroyed “within years, not decades.”
Let us hope.
